Repaint of a Philippine Airlines 747-283BM for the payware CLS 747 HD. This was tested in FSX, but it should work in Prepar3D v1-3 (and v4-5 ports of this add-on).
The 747 was evidently popular among Asian carriers due its capability of handling intercontinental routes, with many airlines from the region utilizing them on their transpacific and European networks. With the popularity of their services to America increasing in the mid 1970's, Philippine Airlines ordered 4 747-200s in 1979 and commenced operations with the type in January 1980 on their Manila-Honolulu-San Francisco service. Over the years, the size of their jumbo fleet fluctuated as they leased secondhand airframes from other carriers. PAL's -200s were later retired in 2000 and replaced by 747-400s.
Interestingly enough, the basis for this repaint was the 500th 747 built. It rolled out of the Boeing Everett plant on November 19, 1980 and made its first flight on December 20 that same year. It was originally intended to be delivered to Scandinavian Airlines as OY-KHB, but the registration was cancelled and it was instead given to the airline as N4501Q. After the retirement of SAS' 747 fleet in the mid-80s, it was sold to Guiness Peat Aviation along with a handful of its sister ships and leased to Philippine Airlines as EI-BTS from 1988 to 1997. It last served with UPS as N523UP before being broken up in 2011 at Roswell, New Mexico.
